Your SAT Center Just Filled Up. Here's the Loophole College Board Built In.

💡 If your child’s preferred SAT center is full, do not assume the only option is a long drive. College Board introduced an SAT Waitlist for U.S. test centers beginning in fall 2026.
How the SAT Waitlist works
If the test date or center your child wants is full, the registration system may offer a waitlist option for an area you select. If a seat later opens, the student may be moved into that available seat. It is a useful backup, but it is not a guaranteed reservation.
I would still register early
A waitlist is not a seat, and I would never build a testing plan around hoping another family cancels. Registering early still gives your child the best chance of getting the preferred date and center. The waitlist matters when families register late, a nearby site fills unexpectedly, or plans change close to an important testing window.
If your child gets shut out of a center, check the College Board registration account before assuming you need to travel several hours. And if you are choosing among September, October, November, or December, make the date fit the student’s preparation and college application timeline, not simply the first seat you can find.
